Hello Localvores!


IMPORTANT NOTE: There will be no NE Box the week of Thanksgiving (you will NOT get a box delivered on Nov. 29th) We want to give you some time to eat leftovers! Make sure to stock up this week and next so you have all the local goodness for your big meal. Maybe having a story to tell about where your food comes from will provide an opportunity to keep the conversation pleasant? 🙂

We’ve got some great Jalapeno Salt and Dried Coriander from Bright Hope Family Farm that you can add to your box in addition to the Garlic Salt that is in the Large Boxes this week. You know what garlic and jalapenos are, but what is coriander? Check out this article from What’s Cooking America to read a little about it. They say: “Coriander is the dried seed of the cilantro.  The seeds are round like tiny balls.  They are used whole or ground as a flavoring for food and as a seasoning.  The seeds are used in curries, curry powder, pickles, sausages, soups, stews, and ratatouille.The essential seed oil is used in various herbal remedies and dietary supplements, and to flavor gin, vermouth, liqueurs, tobacco and perfumery.” Add some big flavor to your fall food from the small town of Firth, NE!


One more note for the upcoming Holiday, next week, we’ll have pumpkin puree available for a super easy pumpkin pie or custard! We’ll have both plain and spiced/sweetened varieties. Make sure to put some in your box and make a Turkey Day staple easy, convenient, local and delicious!

Holiday season (party season?) is approaching! Here is a great, easy, and tasty idea that you can use as party snacks/charcuterie or a gift. Load up with a few pounds of locally produced ground beef in your NE Box, and use it to make pepperoni! It’s so easy, and SOOOOO good. The basic premise is to add some curing salt and spices to ground beef, knead it, let it sit overnight, knead it again, let it sit another day, and then roll out into tube shapes and bake it really slow. Check out this recipe, or search “tender quick pepperoni” to learn more. This isn’t the same as cheap pizza pepperoni, it’s a little more like summer sausage, and it is delicious (especially when it’s still a little warm from the oven. Put a slice on a piece of bread from LeQ!  XD
