NE Box Newsletter for August 23, 2019 Pickup

Owner/Farmer Alan Koelling of Simply Sunflower

 Hello all!

This is the 20th week of Nebraska Box for 2019, and we’re so glad you’re with us on this local food journey.  Did you know we operate NE Box year round now?  That’s right, we’ll bring you fresh (and frozen) local food options even in the depths of winter.

You can continue to pop onto Vacation Mode when you’re out of town, reschedule future payments as needed, AND we just added a “one off” weekly box option for folks out there who aren’t ready to commit to a subscription.  We’re still getting it situated on our website, so for now please share these direct links with anyone who may be interested:  Weekly Supreme Box  and Weekly Veggie Box.  Have them put your name in the order comments for a $10 kick back to your funds.  As subscribers, you’ll want to be sure and log in and stick with your usual Supreme and Veggie for the best value; the Weekly options are $5 more.

And here we have it, another round of great local food… green beans are back on our list this week, as well as okra, ciabatta rolls, arugula, two-packs of grassfed ground beef, and the most adorable little Kiku Chrysanthemum melons.  See the default box contents below, and be sure to log on and customize by 11:59pm Monday if you want to make changes.

Check out the boxes we have planned for you:

We’d love to hear how you liked the all-beef sausage patties from last week!  This week one of the new items is patty pan summer squash.  Patty pans are sometimes enjoyed while young and more tender, and they can also be left in the field a few more days to size up.  Whatever size they are, you can enjoy them grilled, fried, baked…or STUFFED if they are large enough!  Other common names for patty pan squash include “flying saucer” and scalloped squash.  Photo above by our Nebraska Box packer from last year, Ashley Alred.

Don’t forget about the Seasonal and Simple app—it’s loaded with tips and recipes for all the fruit and veg in season – it’s super handy, while also inspiring and informative!

Have a great week everyone. Eat well and be well.
